Networking is necessary for the growth of your business. Many founders/owners forget about the follow up afterwards.  Here's how to not suck at follow-up:

Also, if you don’t touch base with anyone that you meet at a networking event, you are losing out on opportunities to grow your business because many people will quickly forget about you!

Here are some tips for following up after a networking event!
  • Google the people you meet at the event. This is only for your most respected 1 or 2 people you met, as spending too much time before gauging their interest in you can be a time waster seomtimes.  You will be amazed at what you find out about the people that you just met. You also might find more reasons to contact some of them. You may also decide that some of them are not worth your time.
  • Look up and connect with the people that you met on social media. Social media is a great way to connect with people so look for those that you are interested in staying in contact with on social media. You can look for them on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn, along with any other profiles that you may use regularly. Then, be sure to find ways to connect with them regularly through these avenues.  Plus, adding them is a very easy effort on your end that's a nice gesture to them.
  • E-mail those people that you want to remain in contact. Tell them that you were glad to have met them. Make your e-mails personal by mentioning something that you had discussed at the meeting. Maybe even discuss what you thought of the event!  The normal next action step in the email is to meet for coffee.  Pro tip:  Go for happy hour or a more informal setting for your first meeting.

Networking events can be awkward but they are worth it if you can find a bunch of people to help you grow your business. However, if you don’t follow up, you might be missing out on a lot of business. You should decide who you want to focus your attention on and then, look for them on social media and e-mail them. Be sure to work on building a good relationship with them!
